Synopsis

Obama's New Web Site Fights Smears

A lie travels faster than an eagle flies.
While the contradiction limps after it as a snail's pace.
Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma - 1782

Winning by Hoax
By Al Owens

I’m sure you’ve been hearing for months that: Barack Obama is a Muslim; he placed his hand on the Koran when he was sworn into the U.S. Senate; He’s not really an American citizen and he avoids that reality by not revealing his birth certificate; and recently there’s a videotape of his wife, Michelle, using the word “whitey” while giving a speech.

Well, none of that is true. Those are just the current hoaxes that haunt Obama that have somehow been embraced by people who curiously seem to wish they’re true.

Once again, they’re not.

Obama’s fractured relationship with his former Christian preacher – Rev. Jeremiah Wright – has not dispelled the myth that he’s really a Muslim.

The percentage of Americans who believed that particular fiction was in single digits last December. It now stands at between 10 and 13 percent.

A pack of lies seem to live much longer than the truth, don’t they?

So perplexed is the Obama campaign about the internet rumor mill, that it’s started a web site to combat it head on. http://fightthesmears.com was launched last week, and it contains specific refutations to the continuing Obama-and-his-wife-hate-America nonsense that’s sure to accelerate if John McCain continues to trail in the polls. (The latest Quinnipiac Poll reveals that McCain is trailing Obama in Ohio, Florida and even by 12 percentage points in the state of Pennsylvania)

I’m expecting to hear word that Obama had Osama Bin Laden over for dinner the other night, if this keeps up.

If you really want to find the truth, you can on that web site.

If you truly believe that Obama placed his hand on the Koran – you can find the Time Magazine picture of him standing with his wife and kids as he was sworn in using a Bible – by Dick Cheney.

He doesn’t put his hand over his heart, or face the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance? Visit that web site, and view him leading the Pledge of Allegiance – with his hand over his heart.

If you’ve been sold that bill of goods about those supposed questionable quotes from those two books he’s written – you can see that some of those quotes never existed – and the others were skillfully taken out of context.

Do you REALLY believe Obama isn’t an American citizen? Do you REALLY believe he wasn’t born on American soil – so therefore he’s not really a citizen?
Do you REALLY believe he’s been hiding his birth certificate to avoid having to drop out of the presidential race – because he’s a closet foreigner?

Click once on that web site and you can see a picture of his birth certificate. I get a feeling, though, that some doubters will take issue with the fact that he was born in Hawaii, because, to them (and only to them), Hawaii is a foreign country. But to most of us, the truth is its best defense.

And I haven’t even gotten to the nastiest rumor that bubbled up a few weeks ago, that had ultra-conservative talk show hosts, and bloggers all over the planet wishing it was true.

That back in the summer of 2004, Michelle Obama had given a speech at the now famous Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, which she used the word “whitey” to describe white people.

Late last month Rush Limbaugh repeated the rumor on his radio show.
A rightwing blogger, who’d served in the U.S. State Department’s Office of Counter Terrorism, Larry Johnson, wrote on May 31st that, “Now I know why people who have seen the videotape say it is stunning. Barack’s headaches are only starting.”

Since then, it’s Johnson’s headaches which have started, because there was no videotape. There has never been any videotape of the supposed incident, because the event in which Michelle Obama was supposed to have attended - wasn’t even at that church.

And, to make matters worse – she wasn’t even on the panel.
